Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®: A NEW WAY OF MAKING YARNS 

The new Q-CYCLE yarn is the result of the interaction between BASF’s ChemCycling™ project and Fulgar’s textile skills and experience. ChemCycling™, based on pyrolysis technology, replaces fossil source need with a secondary raw material obtained by chemically recycling tires at the end of their lifecycle. By using a third-party audited mass balance approach, the share of this recycled material is allocated to the final product which has the same properties as those made from fossil feedstock.

The result is Q-CYCLE, an innovative polyamide 6,6 where 100% of the raw material needed for its production has been replaced by pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires and attributed to it in a mass balance approach. 

This polyamide offers the same functional and aesthetic benefits of lightness, strength and resistance but in a more sustainable form. It can be used to produce high quality fabrics and is the ideal solution for all textile applications, and it can also be processed with ease like a normal polyamide, so it combines with all fibers.

MOISTURE MANAGEMENT
Q-CYCLE by Fulgar® has excellent moisture management performance, this feature allows you to keep the skin cool and dry. 

UNALTERED PROCESS
Fabrics and clothing made of Q-CYCLE by Fulgar® have the same levels of solidity as those made with virgin polyamide while maintaining the same dyeing and production processes. 

WHAT IS THE MASS BALANCE?

Mass balance is an accounting system used to manage a certain quantity of recycled content in a final product like plastic packaging when both recycled raw material and virgin material are used together in the process. Mass balance ensures that the recycled material content at process input is correctly balanced with the recycled content of the products to be sold and is certified by third parties.

LCA

LCA is a process of evaluating the effects that a product has on the environment over the entire period of its life thereby increasing resource-use efficiency and decreasing liabilities. It can be used to study the environmental impact of either a product or the function the product is designed to perform, identifying and quantifying the environmental loads involved; e.g. the energy and raw materials consumed and the emissions generated. Also, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of these loads allow assessing the options available for reducing these environmental impacts.

ISCC PLUS allows you to demonstrate, through a management system, the traceability and sustainability of raw materials, intermediate products and final products of the supply chains of: production of food products, for feed, technical/chemical, bio-based, supply chains of biomass production for energy applications.
