Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

SUSTAINABLE POLYAMIDE YARN PRODUCED FROM 100% NON-FOSSIL RAW MATERIALS IN A MASS-BALANCE APPROACH

The production of Q-CYCLE sustainable polyamide yarn saves significant amounts of water and CO2 by converting end-of-life tyres into a valuable product that retains the high quality of polyamide. End-of-life tyres can be recycled into innovative textile materials for the apparel industry.

WHAT IS Q-CYCLE?

ECOLOGICAL TEXTILE INNOVATION: THE FUTURE WITH Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

At the forefront of ecological textile innovation, the new Q-CYCLE yarn is the result of the interaction between BASF's ChemCycling™ project and Fulgar's textile expertise and experience. ChemCycling™ uses pyrolysis to replace fossil raw materials with a secondary material derived from the chemical recycling of tyres at the end of their life cycle. Using a third party controlled mass balance approach, the proportion of this recycled material is allocated to the final product, which has the same properties as one obtained from fossil raw materials.

The result is Q-CYCLE, an innovative polyamide 6.6 yarn in which 100% of the raw material used for its production has been replaced by pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tyres and is allocated according to a mass balance approach.

This polyamide yarn combines the functional and aesthetic advantages of lightness, strength and durability in a more sustainable version. Ideal for the production of high quality apparel fabrics, it is the perfect solution for a wide range of textile applications. It is also as easy to process as a traditional polyamide and can be seamlessly integrated with other yarns.

PROPERTIES

VERSATILITY
A yarn suitable for all types of textile applications, as easy to process as a traditional polyamide and compatible with all fibres.

BREATHABILITY
Q-CYCLE by Fulgar has excellent moisture management properties to keep the skin cool and dry.

CONSISTENT QUALITY AND PROCESSES
Fabrics and garments made with Q-CYCLE by Fulgar® retain the same strength as those made with virgin polyamide, guaranteeing continuity of dyeing and production processes without variations.

WHAT IS THE MASS BALANCE?

Mass balance is an accounting system used to monitor and balance the amount of recycled fibre used in final products, such as clothing, when recycled and virgin materials are combined in the production process. This system ensures that the amount of recycled material used at the start of the process is exactly the same as the amount in the finished products sold, and is verified by independent certification bodies.

CERTIFICATIONS

CERTIFICATIONS

OEKO-TEX® STD 100 CLASS I appendix 6

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent and uniform control and certification system at an international level for raw materials, semi-finished and finished products in the textile sector at every level of processing, as well as for the accessory materials used. Thanks to its decades of experience, STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® helps to guarantee high and effective product safety from the consumer's point of view.

Q-CYCLE BY FULGAR®

RCS from TEXTILE EXCHANGE

The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is a certification promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important international non-profit organisations for responsible and sustainable development in the textile sector. The standard recognises the importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model, with the aim of reducing the consumption of resources (virgin raw materials, water and energy). The certification provides for the issue of an environmental declaration, verified by a third party, which guarantees the content of recycled materials in products, both intermediate and finished, and the maintenance of traceability throughout the production process, from the recycling of materials, through the subsequent manufacturing phases, to the labelling of the finished product.

ISCC

ISCC PLUS allows you to demonstrate, through a management system, the traceability and sustainability of raw materials, intermediate products and final products of the supply chains of: production of food products, for feed, technical/chemical, bio-based, supply chains of biomass production for energy applications. The standard has sustainability and traceability as its basic requirements.

LCA certification for textiles

LCA

LCA is a process of evaluating the effects that a product has on the environment over the entire period of its life thereby increasing resource-use efficiency and decreasing liabilities. It can be used to study the environmental impact of either a product or the function the product is designed to perform, identifying and quantifying the environmental loads involved; e.g. the energy and raw materials consumed and the emissions generated. Also, evaluating the potential environmental impacts of these loads allow assessing the options available for reducing these environmental impacts.
